5 _0 I& J8 s/ G- d) W* P　　１９５９年８月２８日出生于东京。小学时对漫画产生兴趣，当时的偶像是６０年代的大师石森章太郎。初中三年级时画出一部长达６０页的漫画，下场无考。升学时考入庆应高中，同时考入该校还有两人，并因为共同的兴趣与美树本成为极要好的朋友，即河森正治和细野不二彦。７８年轻松考入庆应大学，但由于精力投入漫画和同人志的制作，险些在一年级就留级，于是决定永不再画漫画。
( N8 E4 u7 A7 e1 A5 r. [: }! w　　但就在７９年，由于受《高达》的冲击，美树本再次拿起画笔，并着手组织自己的组织：ＦＡＮＣＬＵＢ。８０年在宫武一贵的介绍下在ＡＲＴＬＡＮＤ勤工俭学，制作动画，职务是最底层的仕上，参加过的动画有《新鲁邦三世》。
* d# b, G# c7 c, c9 ~* |! k: X　　８２年，正是动画事业全力发展的时期，美树本选择了退学，决定投身动画业。同年，在好友宫武一贵（机械及世界设定）和河森正治（动画）的帮助下，推出了震惊日本的超经典大作——《超时空要塞ＭＡＣＲＯＳＳ》ＴＶ版。这部作品令整个日本动画界为之一振，从此迈向与电影同等的地位，令动画人物和声优首次真正偶像化，也使这三人小组合大放异彩。
8 Q' [" I9 S3 L$ C  W　　８３年又推出一部ＴＶ版大作《超时空世纪》。８４年，《ＭＡＣＲＯＳＳ》剧场版《可曾记得爱》在“超高质量精密作画”的广告中上映，立即引起莫大轰动和不菲的票房。
% P& O9 Y9 Z: |5 J6 t  c　　１９８５年，ＯＶＡ制作在日本起步。美树本和他的ＭＡＣＲＯＳＳ制作班底紧跟着时代，也成为ＯＶＡ动画史的奠基人之一，《无限地带２３》的出现带起了ＯＶＡ精细制作的风潮。美树本在此部作品中担任策划和人物设计。
　　８６年，再度插手ＭＡＣＲＯＳＳ，推出ＭＴＶ专辑《超时空要塞ＦＬＡＳＨ　ＢＡＣＫ　２０１２》。这是美树本同时担任人物设计和作画监督的最后一部作品。
8 }# t) I  r% V7 u　　８８年美树本暂时退出动画界，开始在《ＮＥＷ　ＴＹＰＥ》１月号连载首套正式漫画作品《木偶时代》，向世人显示了在漫画方面的实力，后由角川书店《１００％ＣＯＭＩＣＳ》出版了单行本。同年，为《沙罗曼蛇》和《飞越颠峰》作角色设定。８９年参入《高达》系列，制作出又一部精品《００８０》。美树本也接受过《００８０》之 外 的ＧＵＮＤＡＭ系列的插图，对于那些并不出自于自己手中的人物角色，他仍然能很快上手，并能将各个处于不同时代的角色的特征极为准确地刻画出来，这就可以说是难能可贵了，之所以称之为难能可贵，是因为ＧＵＭＤＡＭ各个系列的人物造型都由不同的人员来负责设定工作，再来看美树本画的一幅名为《空间重合》的插图，早期的阿姆罗，《Ｚ》的卡德，《００８０》的库莉丝及《Ｆ９１》的薛比与赛斯莉，仅从各自的眼神中，就能了解到他们各自不同的命运，而美树本对人物造型的掌握，也足以达到了了令人钦佩的地步。
6 B$ X" c! ~: F2 s　　９０年代进军游戏界。各机种全面占领的ＭＡＣＲＯＳＳ相关游戏、ＳＳ、ＰＳ上《惑星强袭》１、２代均由美树本担任人物设计。
